[intro] Delkhaze, Stage 1

The Delkhaze "family" takes their name from a Vespanolan town on the Illier-Vespanola border, where the original founders used to live. Following some unpleasant business in the town, members of the local police force and the local rebels forged an alliance to send their people over to the New World to make a fresh start. Documents were forged to take advantage of the Vespanolan reconquista policy, and thus the Delkhaze family was created.

Mercenaries, handymen, jacks of all trades, the various members hail from both sides of that border and increasingly from other countries as well. Most of them are misfits of some sort, seeking to escape family or community or whatever unfriendly circumstances they've got into. Based out of a crumbling brick house in a less-than-safe neighbourhood in Cite de Reboldoeux, they do pioneering and other odd jobs, hiring out to anyone with money who is trustworthy enough.



In the aftermath of the incident, the important thing was to get the people involved out of harm's way first, and so four people made their way to the New World:

KAYZE van der SILFHAVEN (AGE 24; CLASS elementalist; USUALLY molesting someone) She and Lune, being from filthy rich families, provided the initial funds to get set up in the New World. Kayze is nobility, from an offshoot branch of the wealthy Silfhavens, but the inbreeding seems to have left her a little batty. She's normally very… friendly, and very tactile. She also likes warmth and hates being cold (why does she wear those elementalist outfits? O:), which means she tends to cuddle in with anyone nearby whenever she can. …There's also the bit where she loves provoking reactions from people. Generally sleepy-looking, Kayze wanders through life mostly untouched by it, treating pretty much everything and everyone with the same sense of amusement and curiosity, except for a select few. She has no sense of personal boundaries, and no empathy, but she is fairly intelligent and has learnt from experience how to bug people and when to stop before they punch her in the kidneys. Her closest bond is with Lune, and they're probably the most devoted couple in the entire group, despite how both of them will sleep with anything acceptable. They understand each other implicitly, and will do anything for each other… possibly because they don't care for other people at all. She also respects and obeys Rani, her former team leader, but treats everyone else only slightly better than random strangers. RUE DEVANA (AGE 19; CLASS musketeer; USUALLY sleeping) Following a flight from the Old and a rather rocky arrival in the New World, Rue's since adjusted. An Illieran whose middle-class family moved over the border into Vespanola, he signed up with the guards at a young age, only to end up in a town in the middle of nowhere, fighting a tiny rebel force with a tiny guard force. His meeting Lane started a chain of events that ended up with them both on the run. To strangers, Rue's bland, unassuming and unremarkable, withdrawn but polite and generally accommodating. With friends and especially Lane, however, he's talkative and opinionated, though he generally only tolerates physical affection from Lane. He sleeps a lot, and when not can usually be found reading something or checking on things. Somehow, though, his general tidiness doesn't extend to his belongings--his and Lane's stuff can usually be found all over their room and the living areas, especially around the one couch they've staked out as "theirs". LANE i'te DELKHAZE (AGE 18; CLASS fighter; USUALLY chatting with someone) A city foundling (hence the last name), Lane grew up an in orphanage and witnessed firsthand the situation of the poor in Vespanola. Joined Rue Dewin in her rebellion against Vespanola fairly eagerly, though he doesn't always agree with her methods. Cheerful and loyal (sometimes overly so), Lane treats everyone with the same mixture of openness and wariness. However much he wants to trust people, his upbringing taught him to watch his back always. Once he's decided to trust someone, though, he trusts them unconditionally. Since he's mostly been focused on first survival and later the rebellion, life in the New World is the first chance he's really had to experience new things, so he's been copying other Delkhaze-mates' hobbies to try things out. (Except for Lune and Kayze's, of course.) At this point in time he's somewhat obsessed with following Rue around, due to some events in the past. This tends to end up with both of them sprawled on the downstairs couch fast asleep and tangled together. ERRAN TARELIAS von LISEL (AGE 18; CLASS scout; USUALLY laffing at someone) Despite the grand name, Erran's family's dirt poor and mostly dead. Having had to take care of her brood of older brothers since young, Erran's well-versed in the art of healing, and soon discovered that there was a market for mercenary healers. (That was when she started learning dagger-fighting, because being a mercenary isn't always a safe job.) Rue Dewin hired her and her twin sister for the rebels, and the rest is, well, history. Erran pairs an optimistic nature with a dark and sometimes sadistic sense of humour, as much likely to cheerfully detail your chances of getting beheaded as how lovely you look today. Still, she's not serious (usually) about her dark utterings, just like how she's not serious (sometimes) with her flattery. Her healing talents have extended to an interest in sewing and finding out how things work, so she spends a great deal of time poking at things, sometimes with a knife.
